Conventions are always one of our favorite activities. It gives us a chance to stretch our legs (sometimes too much), check out upcoming shows/movies, and interact with creators in their own element. It’s a four day marathon that includes screenings, contests, previews, activations, and so much more. New York Comic Con, a staple that is generally one of the biggest in the country, came back after a 2020 hiatus (COVID). Between vaccine mandates and impressive distancing, there were no major COVID disruptions during or after the con. The highlight of the year was some of the massive projects they brought from What We Do in the Shadows, Chucky, Wheel of Time, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife. There were some great activations that highlighted Doom Patrol and The Sandman, while the cosplay as always was impressive. The crowds were great, generally following protocols and just having a fun time, especially after 2 years of no convention at all. As we look onto 2022 we see more stars and more people coming back, as it is hard to compare to the spectacle that is NYCC at it’s fullest.
