Today, Prime Video revealed first-look images of the highly anticipated dark Norse thriller series, Bloodaxe. The series comes from showrunners Michael Hirst (Vikings) and Horatio Hirst. All eight episodes of Season One will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, with Season Two currently in production in Ireland.

In Season One, Bloodaxe reframes the legendary rise of Norse raider Erik Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux) through the shadowy influence of his formidable wife, Gunnhild, “Mother of Kings” (Jessica Madsen). Shifting from standard historical combat into a dark, sorcery-infused political thriller, the series follows Gunnhild as she uses ancient blood magic and covert puppet-mastery to clear Erik’s path to the throne of Norway. As rival Scandinavian kings and a calculating English monarch wage a high-stakes war of espionage and steel, the boundary between historical warfare and dark myth dissolves, setting the stage for a haunting, cataclysmic new Norse saga.

The first season stars Xavier Molyneux, Jessica Madsen, Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte, and Jesper Christensen.

Bloodaxe is executive produced by showrunners and writers Michael and Horatio Hirst, alongside Morgan O’Sullivan (O’Sullivan Productions), Steve Stark (Toluca Pictures), Arturo Interian, John Weber, and Sheila Hockin.
